The Sego Snap Tail Mount System for Telemetry Transmitters

You will need some tools and 5 minute epoxy

Cut down the rivets that hold the snaps in place so the excess rivet does not interfere with the snap operation.

Cut a piece of leather, attach snap to part that goes on the tail feathers,  punch two small holes. (Important - leave the two leather straps that go around the tail feathers long enough to work with)

Make the other part of the snap and secure it to the transmitter. (Important - make sure you leave the tab long enough to grab later to remove)

Take the falcon down with a large light weight towel (it is best to have a small fan running on the falcons face if it is very warm)

Cut excess feathers around the two deck feathers if needed. Once you figure out how to do it you will not need to cut any feathers unless they interfere with putting the transmitter on.

Trim the downy part of the feathers away from the shaft with a razor. (be careful not to cut the falcon when he moves around)

Place a small drop of 5 minute epoxy onto the bottom of the leather straps that wrap around the shaft. Not to much just a drop will do but make sure it secures the leather strap to the feather shaft. You will notice the small tool that opens at the very end without stretching the holes, Don't stretch the holes out. If you don't have this kind of tool put some glue on the ends of the straps and let them get hard so you can use them to tread themselves through the holes.

Pull both straps snug (Important - not so tight that you crush the feather shaft).

Cut the excess straps off about 1/16 of an inch and place small drop of epoxy in the holes. (not to much epoxy and don't let it glob up the feathers)

It should look like this when done. This is a tail mount that was molted out and still has good adhesion.

To place on the falcon hold transmitter tab and deck feathers as shown. You can do this in the dark by feel without looking after a few days of practice.

To remove the transmitter simply grab the tab with index finger and thumb, then force off of deck by pushing against the deck feathers with the middle finger. Again this can be done in the dark without looking.

Important (leave the tab on the transmitter long enough to remove and replace battery, depending on which transmitter you use)
